Neuropsychological Evaluations
Neuropsychological evaluations are comprehensive assessments that examine the connections
between brain and behavior. Specifically, the evaluations identify cognitive and
behavioral strengths and weaknesses. Typically these evaluations are requested when
you, a loved one, or your physician notices a change in functioning or ability.
Referrals are made to diagnose or rule out some of the following conditions and to describe their impact on daily cognitive functioning:
- Concussive injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries, including strokes
- Developmental and learning disabilities
- Attention deficit disorders
- Psychiatric disorders
- Effects of toxic chemicals or chronic substance abuse
- Degenerative conditions (such as multiple sclerosis or dementia)
Neuropsychological evaluations are also useful for:
- tracking progress in rehabilitation,
- creating individual educational and vocational programs,
- disability determination or for forensic (legal) purposes to determine the nature and extent of functional brain damage.
Evaluations consist of a client interview, administration of empirically validated neuropsychological testing, a review of previous psychological, psychiatric and medical records, and collateral interviews.
